I am having some difficulties with my neighbor(s) (I have no idea why, there is no good reason for this) and was wondering if anyone had any advice for dealing with it. For months I have been finding random trash, bottle caps, pens, pencils, and rocks (mysteriously they match my neighbors gravel driveway) in my yard and in my driveway, some of which scraped up my car. Also the bottle caps (no I am not racist I am Mexican American too) were "Dos Equis" (his last name is Huizar) a brand popular with Mexicans. The other day I came home to find an egg on the side of my house. To show the guy(s) I know whats up I took an egg from my fridge and set it on the grass between our driveways. The next day it was smashed on my driveway and there was mustard in my mailbox. I am the type of person that lets no unjust deed pass without some type of retribution ESPECIALLY when I have taken the high road and not just lashed out back at them AND also considering I did nothing to provoke this in the first place. I know for a fact the owner isn't a very nice guy, when I moved in I tried to say hello and introduce myself but he didn't even stop walking from his car to his house and just kind of grunted at me. My main plan is to set up an x10 camera system from a good vantage point in my attic that can see over the fence and if the windows were open in to the kitchen and a bedroom. Like I said I have no idea why he/they are doing this so I am a bit worried about what their intentions are since I don't have a clue what their motive is. I am in the state of Illinois, Lake County and from what I understand it is legal to video people without their permission as long as it has no audio. I am also wondering about the legality of pointing the camera basically on his hose/property, which would be mostly unavoidable because most of this stuff is done from the other side of the fence. The other idea is to point the camera at my mailbox and then write a polite letter asking him if he knows who is involved to have them stop and wedge it on the outside of his mailbox. Then assuming he is the a-hole I think he is he will cover it with something nasty and put it in my mailbox giving me video of a felony in action. I would like to know what my legal rights/liabilities are here. Thank you for any assistance you can provide.
