I live in Florida. I have a lease that expires 11/30/07. The complex requires a 2 month notice if moving or they charge "$200 plus market rate rent for month to month" not sure about that. I am in good standing with the complex and have renewed my lease twice. They publish the apartment rates on the company website ( Aimco). I called, after being solicited by their "renewel center" back in August. I was told the rent would remain the same. I said I would get back in touch and I did. In the one and half week time frame the rent was quoted as going up over $30. I explained the published rent for my size unit was lower than I am paying now, but I would agree to my current rent amount. They said no.
Are landlords allowed to charge over their published rates ? This complex has many vacancies at this time and freeing up space is not an issue. What are my rights. It seems like false advertising and bait and switch.
