I have been living in a rental house for almost 4 years. After being there 2 years the landlord sold the property and told me the new owners would be contacting me by mail in the next week. After a few weeks of not hearing from anyone I called my old landlord back and asked him for the name of the landlord as there were things that needed repaired. He told me basically he couldnt help me that from what he understood the company he sold to had already sold to someone else. After trying several times to find out who purchased the house I gave up.. I have been living there rent free. A few weeks ago, an attorny representing the owner called me and wanted me out. I told him I would start searching for a place. He gave me a week. When the week was up and I still had no place to me he told me he really went out on a limb for me and I had not moved yet. A few days later a note was on the door to answer before the magistrate within 7 days. I did this and am schedule for court 10/4/2007 at 4pm. Yesterday their attorny called me again an told me his clients will pay me to leave... what legal rights do I have and why would they start offering me money??
